Il saggio traccia un breve profilo sulle dinamiche insediative e il processo di strutturazione territoriale che hanno avuto luogo durante l'età moderna, tra Cinque e Settecento, in un lungo tratto del litorale occidentale palermitano, tra Isola delle Femmine e Partinico. Quest'area che sarebbe stata assai ancora più rapidamente e profondamente trasformata nel corso dell'età contemporanea, specialmente nella seconda metà del Novecento, nel passato era sì antropizzata - almeno dall'età islamica - ma poco o per nulla urbanizzata e popolata.
